Pondering Poetry
The world of poetic rumblings, hmmm, alluring, intriguing, filled with nuance and hints of secrets withheld. One might say that poetry is the soul speaking a curious puzzle of emotion and word.
Personally I love poetry as it is so private. I also love that there are so may forms, but the main forms: free verse, rhyming, sonnets, haiku, cinquain, epic, ballad, acrostic, and I would add rapping https://examples.yourdictionary.com/types-of-poetry-examples.html. And the best part of poetry is that it can be as short or long depending on the mood or your time available. Most poems linger and are in abeyance ready to be edited repeatedly. Great for those who need closure yet comforting to those who need to process and digest. I have often used poetry as my springboard for prose writing; priming of the pump so to speak.
Many of you know I have used it often in writing for children as rhyming couplets engage the listener and reader in prediction. As a writer I find it like a puzzle challenge in trying to switch words around to convey a meaning while meeting the rhyme. I also like the writing form as it is great for introducing children to a treasure box of synonyms, homophones, alliteration, metaphor and simile. Last poetry is short and often fun, engaging children in learning to play with language sounds, develop reading skills and often can be combined with elements of drama (voice/expression/action/chime in).
