Did you know that fairies and elves are guardian angels of the earth, animals and children?
They are always around the corner ready to protect and harmonize.
This is one of the last social skill stories in the collection written back in 2007. The theme is empathy.
Today I decided to film the video while taking a walk along the Bear Mountain Golf Course valley trail. It was rather fun as people were walking by wondering what Dazzle was doing. Several weeks ago I left a rock with the word listen further up the trail, but today I found it by the bridge.
This story was written to pay tribute and celebrate my class, 4-2, that was so compassionate and cooperative. When we filmed it Amanda Pitt, our student volunteer studying to be a teacher took on the role of the principal. At the end we had the wee kindergarten kids take on the role of the vanishing wee fairies. I bet those students who are now in their early twenties would get a good howl seeing that video again.
Here is a poem penned for classroom use:
Empathy
by MC Rolston ©2011
Problems are like mountains sometimes they’re hard to climb
But we can help each other have an easier time
Using empathy we understand what it means to walk in someone else’s shoes
It is seeing a situation from another’s point of view.
Understanding another’s feelings and issues that need to be solved.
We can listen and offering help and support, making sure they are happy and problems are resolved.
