Trust & Special Friends

In these very extreme new circumstances, trust is an essential component to muscle through the battle against this disease. We are dependent on trusting each other in our communities that like following the rules of the road when driving we will all follow the rules of social isolation. Why? The answer: to protect life and liberty not only for ourselves but others. This pandemic is putting our civic duty and our values to test. As Marianne Williamson and other great spiritualists state, it all boils down to love. LOVE is built on trust. Like the cycle of life in nature, our seeds of love will FLOWER. Trust was written back around 2008.

Special Friends was written while I was at Highview School in 2007 teaching half time grade 4. The people there, touched my life and heart deeply and have become friends for life. In particular the HOHs (Highview Old Hotties) supported each other through thick and thin. WE have made a point to celebrate and find ways to have fun in very creative ways. Laughter has bonded us and Deb P. has gone out of her way to lead us back to the HOH fold when life has distracted us. During my teaching at Highview I was sent on a day session for the directions team and heard the keynote Bart McGettrick speak. It made a lasting impression and inspired the last lines of the poem, as McGettrick stated as educators and leaders it is incumbent upon us to raise others to their highest level of distinction.

At this point in our lives we need to celebrate friendships inside and outside our families. The friendships we cherish are those that exude strong accepting and forgiving bonds that balance flexibility and boundaries while withstanding the test of life challenges (COVID-19).

I leave you with the hard copies of these poems that you may savour. Poetry is actually meant to be read and re-read. Enjoy….

Trust – by M.C. Rolston 2008

One single nanosecond
One single purposely planted seed

Stark, alone in darkness
Hungary, thirsty
Silence
Waiting

Resolute precision
Strikes with momentary energy
A serene tremble kindles
Slow struggling simmering
Smoke seeps steadily
Awakening awareness
Tenderly the shield of security opens
Diminutive growth is spurred

Slicing through the hard shell
A simple green spear
Pointed yet soft
Strong yet delicate
Determined and waiting for the
Massage of warm rays,
Quenching drops from on high
Leisurely they embrace
The seed
ENERGY vibrates with a resonance
Bringing a sense of empowerment
Confidence to reach and touch
Great heights
Dreams floating teasing
Determination yet,
More strength is needed

Ah patience
Surrendering to faith
That yes, once more
The cycle will repeat
Stronger than before
It is a waiting game
Nurturing energy will come
Faith maintains the vigor
Hope caresses faith
The two form an alliance of courage
The waves of patience, hope and faith
Gently float the seed to higher ground
Enough fortitude is found to plant strong roots
Stretching
Clawing through the hardened soil
To the last ounce of
Strength
Fatigue ensues
Faltering, fumbling, fearful
Bending
Wilting….
A rumble is heard
Growing with a resolve
Thunder resounds
Breaks the silence with a CRACK
The heavens open
A breaking torrential shower
Of liquid nourishment
Bubbles of ravenous gulping
Bring stability
In no time, beams of heat
Penetrate without invitation

The once tired spear is awakened
Ready to soar
Pointed yet soft
Strong yet delicate

Determined to follow
The cycle of faith

Special Friends by MC Rolston 2007

Through our life we find special friends who teach us through
Their relentless devoted actions,
The meaning of love and loyalty
A bond, often without words
Yet, the depth of feeling
Passion
Commitment
Permeating peacefully pulsating respect that is untouchable and arresting
Like a vibrant arancia rising over a misty glass covered lake
Mysteriously touching and opening the hearts of those around with hopes
That once again they may be graced with such acts of kindness
Triggering the cycle …
Feeding the hungry soul with savoury inspiring moments.

Through our life we find special friends who teach us through
Articulated thoughts and visions
How to give birth to a dream with child like innocence, awe and wonder
Quizzically and cautiously tugging at the yarn of one’s mind
Gently assisting in the unraveling of the endless potential
Of what can be
Of what we want to be
Of what we need to be
Of what we will to be
With unconditional kindness and patience
Questioning us to challenge our own limitations
Yet, with love and understanding, allowing us to explore and make mistakes
Always there to help pick up the pieces or applaud without envy, the triumphs.
They feed the thirsty soul,
Gently touching parched lips with words, direction, heart and inspiration

Through our life we find
That as we grow with our special friends
It may seem that we consumed with satisfying our insatiable thirst and hunger
Fed by our dear special friends
Only to realize that we too have been feeding them
As we nurture and raise each other
To the highest level of
Distinction
Embracement
Love
