Just thought given our found reading time some of you gals might be interested in placing an on-line book order. Here are two recommendations….
I just finished the following two books and highly recommend them if you are looking for an invigorating shower of positive inspiration. My challenge to everyone is to take action in some form within your community, families, circle of friends, workplace, country, then share it on your Facebook page and send me a brief reflection and I will collect them and post them as OUR PAGE of CHANGE let’s see where this goes?! I could start right now listing how all the women in my life are working diligently at serving others and as Bart McGetrick states, “Raising others to their highest level of distinction.” I would add one starfish at a time (a poem to follow).

I caught three minutes of an interview on television with Melinda Gates and it was in that brief period that I was gob-smacked and thought I have to read her recent book. Melinda Gates writes with great humility and honesty as she describes her evolution from a general Christian to a feminist. Her book is compelling, shocking and at times difficult to read. Her grounded, reflective and strategic approach to not only women’s issues but world problems will leave you thinking, “Wow, wouldn’t she make an excellent president!”
In My Own Moccasins A memoir of Resilience by Helen Knott

I was gifted this book from my eldest son, Matt who is celebrating just under a year and a half of sobriety. During his recovery his self-reflection has profoundly drawn him to the sacred spiritually and culture of our indigenous community. This heart wrenching, informative, poetic, shocking, disturbing and yet deeply inspiring read calls upon each of us to understand our indigenous sisters and support their fight for respect, equality and opportunity. Take it slow and savour this book. Allow it to seep into your veins and ignite your compassion and call to action. This book will find a lasting place in your heart.
During my rosary walks up the Bear Mountain Parkway, I saw this amazing inspiring gal, Katie the backhoe operator and asked her if we could take a picture. It was so inspiring to see this young lady breaking through into the stereotypical man’s world of construction. Bravo! Be a disrupter!
So on this note I leave with my poem that placed 34 in Writer’s Digest’s 5th Annual Poetry Awards….let’s ensure potential is found….One starfish at a time!
Fallen Starfish by Mary Catherine Rolston
Dawn breaks
Morning sands spotted scattered as
Rushing, rolling, washing, tumbling, foaming waters
Gently dissipating
Efficiently receding in moments
The Mambo dance of the tides
Hypnotically massages the ebbing shores…
Involuntarily depositing…
The desolate rapidly dehydrating granular deck
Discouraged, disorientated
Fearful
Paralyzed exhausted
Fallen stars.
Did the black heavenly cloak loose some gems from a constellation broach?
Lost stars.
Did the undercurrent sweep the unsuspecting from the sea world?
Lost potential.
Until…
Five fleshy foster tentacles reach rescuing
One
Disabled minute creature.
A gentle toss into the retreating sea
Neptune quickly embraces the return
Quenching revitalizing
Potential found.
One starfish a time.
