The Tale of R ‘n B&B

As we begin week three of social distancing, I thought families might welcome a free colouring story which can be downloaded and printed.

This story was written for a good friend who was struggling when taking her two dogs for a walk. It is an example of true to life events that inspired a story. I wrote this story and Keith illustrated it with the idea that we could help support her entrepreneurial venture while the couplers could support our stories. Rosie, made several attempts at making her couplers, however, due to some technical difficulties, she abandoned the idea of starting a cottage business. Well, I guess all wasn’t lost. We have story that chronicles this adventure. Who knows maybe with this found time at home, Rosie might revisit making couplers and this story could still be used to help support her marketing. What do you think Rosie?

Colouring books are a great way for kids (and adults), to relax and improve fine motor control. In addition, Keith points out a great way to practise shading techniques creating perspective and texture to a picture. Using a regular colouring book, a child can take the pictures cut them out and assemble them in a linking sequence then write a story. This can be done independently or as a parent child activity. Following you can take the pictures, add the text in your photo editor then import them into Imovie and presto you can create your own narrated movie!

Dazzle’s Challenge:

  • We all love our pets, why not write your own story about some of your pet adventures? Have the kids tell them, you can be the dictator. Or use this as conferencing and co-writing time and create a collection of adventures with the family pet. My friend Tara just told me of a story where her young cat just ended 11 feet up in a tree the other day. The process of rescuing this kitty was quite the harrowing, comical and synchronistic adventure. A great example of a story that could be transformed into text.
