Dark Dripping Cool Rain Gives Way to Radiating Sunny Rays that Tickle the Soul

Have you ever realized that too much of a good thing can lead you to ambivalence? How often have you found yourself being gobsmacked with the beauty of a place then after living there day after day for a while it becomes normal? Do you find yourself going through these cycles of appreciation to ambivalence with the seasons?

Here in Comox especially during the months of June to September, although I appreciate the phenomenally sunny weather, once we hit the fourth month, I am a bit like a spoiled child. I don’t really see the same depth of colour or hold the extra excitement for the stunning weather.

This weekend was clear, sunny, and arrestingly beautiful! It was a huge reminder for me to embrace the darkness knowing that when I see the light things will be so much more dazzling. Consequently, I had to take a break from sharing the inspiration I garnered from The Great Leadership Forum to share with you the incredible views of the Comox Valley. It was a reset for us.

As mentioned in last week’s blogs, it was all about staying positive in the face of rain. We are not used to the intense levels of rain that have been recently falling on Vancouver Island. I think most of us were starting to feel like we were locked in a dark room of solitary confinement. Then BAM! The sun broke through in a stupendous way with crystal clear blue skies and comfortable temperatures. It’s been a sun party!

It has been a delightful shock to the senses! This weekend I’ve been particularly taken with the colours of the late-blooming plants. Remarkable is the stunning fall foliage that doesn’t seem to be dropping quickly. Breathtaking views of a variety of green shades of fresh moss growth enchant our eyes as we walk through the crunchy forests. Smiles beam as we pass the playful Halloween displays. The energy of people in the community has lifted as everyone is out walking, visiting restaurants, stores, and parks. It feels like my glasses have technicolour magnifying lenses. What a spectacular gift from the universe!

Isn’t it intriguing that so often just when we seem to be on the edge of screaming, “Enough!” we are gifted with a circumstance, vision, or experience that stops us in our tracks? It’s that moment that resets our perspective. We gain a renewed appreciation, for what was gone is found. The sense of relief and renewed enjoyment of the details that we had started to take for granted. Yes, there is a positive side to the rain …. it magnifies the beauty of a sunny day.

Here are a couple of Poems I penned a few years ago:

The Last Dance

Orange, pumpkin, amber chips
Flicker tapping ever so softly as they
Grasp a stoic partner
Dancing the harvest’s denouement
As autumn whispers with cool tingling kisses
Tease the departure of
Summer dance partners

Elation

Gray brown ashen pallet
Waving winds weave
Caressing chimes
Slow sleepy suspended seconds
Surrendering
….til …..
Penetrating tantalizing
Hot massaging rays
Release
Soulful sunshine swelling
Senses reborn
Ohm
